University of North Dakota Online MSW Program
The University of North Dakota’s (UND) Department of Social Work and Office of Extended Learning offers both traditional and advanced standing (called concentration by UND) online MSW programs that prepare students for advanced generalist social work. The curriculum for UND’s online MSW programs is equivalent to that of their on-campus MSW program, and features live, synchronous web classes that students must attend during evenings and weekends.

“Our faculty often comment that they feel they know the online students as well, if not better, than the campus students.” Read more from Carol Schneweis’s interview
The traditional standing program requires the completion of 60 credits over the course of three or more years of part-time study (six credits per term). Traditional standing students must also attend on-campus intensives. The advanced standing program involves the completion of 36 credits over two years of part-time study. Advanced standing students must attend an on-campus intensive. The on-campus intensives involve lab experiences and in-person interactions with peers and program faculty.
Both the traditional full-length program and the advanced standing track follow a cohort model in that students in a given academic year are admitted at the same time and progress together through classes. The cohort acts as a student support group during school and as students’ professional network once they graduate.
UND’s online MSW programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). UND is also regionally accredited by the North Dakota Education Standards & Practices Board.
